Kloßsiepen circular route

The Kloßsiepen stream was moved back to the valley bottom as part of the ERDF funding measure for rewetting in 2022 and the course of the watercourse, which was artificially straightened in earlier times, was backfilled with backfill soil from the nearby Möhnetal valley.

The watercourse has gained approx. 300 m of flow path as a result of the redesign. The bed gradient is now significantly flatter than before. As a result, the stream will no longer dig so deeply into the subsoil and wash away the gravel at the bottom. The remaining stream gravel was transferred to the new stream bed along with the microorganisms. Gravel serves as an important habitat for numerous stream creatures to hide and spawn.

The aim of rewetting the valley floor by raising the watercourse bed was thus achieved. New wet areas can already be seen on the meadow area, although the Kloßsiepen had little water for a long time due to the persistent drought. The meadow bottom should gradually develop into a species-rich wet meadow. On the advice of the specialist authorities, the newly created areas were not sown. It is hoped that the seed potential still present in the soil will be used. Grazing animals are important helpers in keeping the narrow valley open.
The future development of the flora and fauna is eagerly awaited.

The valley sections can be easily overlooked from the newly built resting stations, some of which have also been equipped with tables.
